Rufus didnt die on screen (not that even THAT stopped him before), which means by some mental gymnastics, and cartoon logic he could still survive the fall. Imo its open ended enough that there would be room for sequel games. all they did was stop the countdown to the detonation. at best, they saved the planet when they tried to save both.Įven the bombs still exist and still pose a risk. The planet is not getting blown up by the bombs, but the ship is now a ticking time bomb and bound to crash into the planet soon. Not only is it incredibly depressing for the main characters, it also leaves half of the problem they were dealing with unresolved. Not going to lie, after everything the ending of the trilogy left a bitter taste in my mouth.
